Hypercontractivity Via the Entropy Method

چکیده
The Hypercontractive Inequality of Bonami (1968, 1970) and Gross (1975) is equivalent to the following statement: for every q > 2 and every function f : {−1,1}n→ R of Fourier degree at most m, ‖ f‖q ≤ (q−1)m/2‖ f‖2 . The original proof of this inequality is analytical. Friedgut and Rödl (2001) gave an alternative proof of the slightly weaker Hypercontractive Inequality ‖ f‖4 ≤ 28m/4‖ f‖2 by combining tools from information theory and combinatorics. Specifically, they recast the problem as a statement about multi-hypergraphs, generalized Shearer’s lemma, and used probabilistic arguments to obtain the inequality. We show that Shearer’s Lemma and elementary arguments about the entropy of random variables are sufficient to recover the optimal Hypercontractive Inequality for all even integers q. متن کاملEstimation of the Entropy Rate of ErgodicMarkov Chains
In this paper an approximation for entropy rate of an ergodic Markov chain via sample path simulation is calculated. Although there is an explicit form of the entropy rate here, the exact computational method is laborious to apply. It is demonstrated that the estimated entropy rate of Markov chain via sample path not only converges to the correct entropy rate but also does it exponential...
متن کاملRegularization in Keller-Segel type systems and the De Giorgi method
Fokker-Planck systems modeling chemotaxis, haptotaxis and angiogenesis are numerous and have been widely studied. Several results exist that concern the gain of L integrability but methods for proving regularizing effects in L∞ are still very few. Here, we consider a special example, related to the Keller-Segel system, which is both illuminating and singular by lack of diffusion on the second e...
متن کاملImpossibility of Local State Transformation via Hypercontractivity
Local state transformation is the problem of transforming an arbitrary number of copies of a bipartite resource state to a bipartite target state under local operations. That is, given two bipartite states, is it possible to transform an arbitrary number of copies of one of them to one copy of the other state under local operations only? This problem is a hard one in general since we assume tha...
متن کاملOn Complex Hypercontractivity
We give a new proof of a hypercontractivity theorem for the Mehler transform with a complex parameter, earlier proved by Weissler 15] and Epperson 4]. The proof uses stochastic integrals and It^ o calculus. The method also yields new proofs of some related results.
